How much ram should I have for photoshop?

As a general rule, Photoshop is a bit of a memory hog, and will put as much memory into stand-by as it can get. Adobe recommends your system have at least 2.5GB of RAM to run Photoshop CC in Windows (3GB to run it on Mac), but in our testing it used 5GB just to open the program and leave it running.

That said, if you don’t want to calculate it yourself but just want some quick recommendation here it is: On Win 10 and Photoshop, 8 – 16GByte of RAM will be more than enough for most of your tasks when editing JPG Photos in the 10 – 20MP range and the occasional RAW Image.

This of course begs the query “Is 8 GB RAM enough for basic edits in Photoshop Lightroom CC?”

The answer is that Yes, 8 GB RAM is sufficient for basic edits in photoshop Lightroom CC. Minimum requirement is 4 GB RAM with 8 GB recommended, so i would expect you should be able to utilize most functionality in LR CC. If you do in Photoshop the same task as you would do in Paint, then yes it’s more then enough.

A frequent inquiry we ran across in our research was “How much RAM do I need for my computer?”.

Our answer was the exact amount you need will depend on exactly what you are doing, but based on your document size we recommend a minimum of 16GB of RAM for 500MB documents or smaller, 32GB for 500MB-1GB, and 64GB+ for even larger documents.
