When I was researching we ran into the question “What are the advantages of Chromebooks?”.

One answer is with so many Android users in the world, Chromebooks have the additional advantage of tying in the world’s most popular app ecosystem that can unite a consumer’s phone, tablet, and laptop under a single unified ecosystem under a single Google account. That is something Windows laptops simply can’t do.

If you use (or can use) mostly Google and other online services, a Chromebook can be a solid and secure alternative to traditional PCs and Macs. The user interface is similar to an Android phone, and most even run Android apps. Chromebooks have a reputation for being more stable and secure, and are popular in many schools.

And by all accounts, Chromebooks are the device of the moment, with 2.5 million shipped to schools in the first half of this year alone. There’s no doubt they’re trendy, but is there any deeper reasons for the sales surge beyond appearance and affordability?

They just aren’t as capable as many Windows laptops and Apple Mac. Books because they focus on a different market. The low price, then, is the top reason why Chromebooks are a popular choice, particularly for students who don’t need a high-performing laptop.
