Does android auto work?

Yes, Android Auto does not work otherwise. This is so that Android Auto can pull any information from my phone at any time, and its also so that you can’t use your phone while driving, for your own safety. Keep in mind, Android Auto is simply a part of the after-market stereo (at least with the unit I use specifically).

This is all you’re allowed to do while the phone is plugged in: look at a splash screen that says “Android Auto.” Android Auto relies heavily on your phone to work, but once you plug in your device it’s rendered inoperable. The whole point is to keep you from using any applications on your phone while you’re driving.

If Google knows you’re going on a trip, for instance, it might automatically pop up directions to the airport once you get into the car. Or, if you’re on your way to a new town, Android Auto will display the weather at your destination. You can navigate, but you can’t read text messages.

How does Android Auto work in a car?

The other way to use Android Auto is to connect a compatible phone to a compatible car radio or infotainment system. This is accomplished by running Android Auto on the phone and then connecting it to a compatible vehicle via USB or Bluetooth. Doing so mirrors the display of the phone, in a slightly modified fashion, on the radio display.

In most of the cases, the connection between the phone and the car is no longer detected, which means Android Auto fails to launch. Some say the phone is charging when plugged in, which means there’s no cable issues – as a matter of fact, many tried to replace the cable, but this didn’t make any difference.

To use Android Auto on your car display, your car needs to be compatible with Android Auto or have an aftermarket unit installed. Android Auto won’t work on all cars equipped with a USB port.

Android Auto is not available on all new cars and some makers have made it a pricey option or are asking for a subscription fee – it’s the same with Apple Car, and play. But the number of cars that have it is growing all the time as customers are insisting on it.

Why does my phone have to download the Android Auto app?

Anyways, when you first plug your phone into your car with Android Auto, your phone has to download the Android Auto app. There isn’t a whole lot you can do with it once it is downloaded, its simply a gateway of information between your phone and Android Auto. Once its downloaded, your phone basically becomes useless.
