Google Play Music has now stopped working for many users on Android, i. OS, and the web. Upon opening the app, a splash page tells you that “Google Play Music is no longer available.” Users are presented with two options to “Manage your data” or “Transfer to You, and tube music”.
While we were writing we ran into the query “Does google play music still exist?”.
Google Play Music will cease to exist in the next few months, with users being migrated to You. Tube Music in the coming months., you Tube Music will completely replace Google Play Music by December 2020, till which time users can transfer their playlists from one to the other.
The Google Play Store no longer lets you buy music. As spotted by Thurrott, the music store on Google Play is no longer available. You cannot use it to buy music to keep. The reason this is happening is because Google wants everyone to transfer to You. Tube Music, its new streaming service.
Is Google Play Music being discontinued?
They began to roll it out gradually, first discontinuing Google Play Music in New Zealand and South Africa before the rest of the world followed in October. Google Play has now officially stopped its music services around the world, and by the end of the year the app will no longer be accessible – but why?
Playlists, uploads, purchases, likes, and more will still remain in your Google Play Music library until December. Between October and December, you can either use the transfer tool to migrate any purchases over to You. Tube Music, or use Google Takeout to export data and download purchased and uploaded music.
Google actually announced a really long time ago that the Google Play Music Store would be disappearing in the near future, and back in August they finally put a date on it, confirming that it would be discontinued in September 2020.
Is Google Play Music still available in New Zealand?
Since September, Google Play Music is no longer available in New Zealand and South Africa, and since October, music streaming started shutting down for some users internationally on the web and the app. The music store was made unavailable in October 2020.
Can I still use Google Play Music?
Users will no longer be able to stream from or use the Google Play Music app. By the end of October, if you haven’t migrated your Google Play Music library to You. Tube Music, Google will automatically cancel your subscription at the end of your billing cycle.
At that point, you won’t be able to stream from the Google Play Music app at all; streaming on the web will stop then as well. While Google Play Music will stop functioning sometime in October, former users will have until December of this year to transfer all their music and data out of the service.
If you’re worried about losing all of your music then don’t be, because Google have made it really easy to transfer your library across. When you visit the Play Music website, you are greeted with a message that tells you “the Music Store on Google Play is no longer available”.
When did Google Play Music start?
Google Play Music is a music and podcast streaming service and online music locker operated by Google. The service was announced on May 10, 2011, and after a six-month, invitation-only beta period, it was publicly launched on November 16, 2011.
The service let you buy songs and listen to them in GPM, with users also having the option to download the MP3 files. With the last big Play Store for Android revamp, Google de-emphasized buying music.
What’s happening to Google’s Music Products?
There are also some previously-unannounced changes coming to Google’s music products. In addition to shutting down the Play Music streaming service, Google is also removing music from the Play Store entirely.
