You can easily check Excel version you are using by looking at the menu or the top ribbon. Open any Microsoft Excel file and look at the top left corner of the file. Depending on how the File button looks, you can easily identify the version of Excel. For Microsoft Excel 2016, you can easily spot the difference.
While I was writing we ran into the question “What version of Excel Am I using?”.
If it looks something like this, you’re still using Excel 2003 (and it’s really time for an upgrade!) Of course if you hit the button (if you have a button in the top left-hand corner, you’re using 2007!) or the File Menu, go to Account and About Excel which should tell you your version as shown here:.
One way to think about this is look up the version number of your current Excel version. In Excel, click on “File”. In the lower part on the left side click on “Account”. There is a large button with a question mark on the right side. When you click on it, a new window opens. The top of the new window shows the version number.
How do I know if I am using Excel 2016?
If it looks like the image below, then congratulations, you’re using the brand spanking new Excel 2016 ! The easiest way to distinguish 2016 from its predacessors is that it is the only version which has got the new “Tell me what you want to do” at the top which is suspiciously like the Office Assistant Paperclip but far less annoying.
You should be asking “Do you know the difference between Excel 2013 and 2016?”
For Microsoft Excel 2016, you can easily spot the difference. You can see the “Tell me what you want to do” text at the top. It is the only Excel version with this feature. For any other version, this text is not available. If you are using Microsoft Excel 2013, you can see that the Ribbon tabs are all in Capital Letters!
What are the symbols used in Excel for calculations?
All calculations in Excel are done by means of formulas, and all formulas are made up of different symbols or operators, depending on what function the formula is performing. The most commonly used symbol in Excel is the equal ( =) sign. Every single formula or function used has to start with equal to let Excel know that a formula is being used.
Below is a quick summary of what $ means in Excel formulas: $A1 – Column A is fixed and will not change, but the row is allowed to change as the formula is copied A$1 – Row 1 is fixed and will not change, but the column is allowed to change as the formula is copied. $A$1:$A$100 – always refers to the range A1:A100.
Excel formula what does $ do?
The $ symbol in excel, more specifically in excel formulas, means that the row number/column letter on its right is absolute. What does absolute mean? It means that the row number/column letter won’t move when we copy the formula to other cells!
Now, the ($) dollar symbol in excel formula plays a vital role here. In a cell, C2 opens the formula. Now give the cell reference to the A2 cell. After giving the cell reference to cell A2, press the F4 key, and see the magic.
Why does my Excel formula start with =+?
The double-unary returns 1 or 0 instead of ‘TRUE’ or ‘FALSE.’ An Excel formula that starts with =+ is nothing. It’s an old habit that Lotus Notes users have for starting a formula.
