Xero allows up to 2 different user configurable tracking categories. In our case we use Project numbers and Activity Month. Within those categories, you can add as many items as you require, we have approx. 200 projects live at the moment.
These businesses will benefit hugely from having a single dashboard showing all projects, their progress, and never forgetting to invoice for a project. It lets them create a project, record time and expenses, and bill for time and material or by fixed price. Xero Projects can’t handle serious job tracking.

How many transactions can xero handle?
Xero has long had a “soft” limit of 1,000 transactions a month. In the past, when a business exceeded this number, Xero could become slow to respond and take a long time to generate reports. But how strict is that 1,000-transaction limit today?
Does transaction history affect Xero performance?
Testing showed that performance problems will come more from simultaneous load on the system rather than the volume of historical transactions. Even with transaction volumes 10 times what Xero indicates as the upper limit, Xero shows no ill-effects due to transaction history. However, the performance impact of transaction entry is greater.
Why use xero?
Xero is best suited for mid-to-large-sized businesses. The software is well-developed and offers strong accounting and ample features, reports, and integrations. Xero also supports unlimited users for every plan, which is almost unheard of in the accounting software world.
Personally I love Xero but for a 1 person contractor having a 20 transaction limit per month is not quite a enough and once you have used up the “bonus transactions you only have the option of upgarding which costs twice as much per month. Xero please expand the limit to 40 transactions for the base package.

We have three separate small companies all of which require Xero accounts to manage them separately. Two of them are part of the same group. Is there some way to link accounts together?
Xero is great on its own as a program, but it can also be integrated easily with a variety of other programs and software. There are payroll providers out there that can be integrated with Xero easily, and it’s one of the most compatible programs out there with other systems.
Well, while we’re on the topic of automation, Xero has gone the whole hog and chosen to automate bank feeds. This means that instead of sitting down to manually import bank statements into Xero, you can set up a bank feed for Xero to do it all for you.
Does Xero projects task allow different rates on the same task?
Currently the Xero projects task does not allow different rates on the same task so I am having to duplicate task and added the initials of the second staff member.
