Yes, it’s truely anonymous. When we use anonymous function in Microsoft Forms to share a form, the admin and creator cannot see user name for the anonymous responses. When they check the responses, it only shows the respondent as Anonymous.

While we were researching we ran into the query “How do I create an anonymous survey in Microsoft forms?”.

In the “Settings” pane of Forms, you can now enable “One response per person” without checking “Record name.” This allows you to create an anonymous internal survey, limiting a single response for each person.

One thought is that for the anonymous survey, you could make the name and email questions required so they must submit something for the fields. If you’re using Forms Pro, I believe there’s validation for email format input, but vanilla Forms doesn’t have this functionality.

Why can’t I see my students’name in form responses?

If you see Anonymous in Name bar, I suppose you didn’t open Record Name function. Record Name function will force students to finish sign-in process before submit an answer which means if you didn’t open it when you create a form, students are able to skip sign-in so that you can’t see their name in Responses page.
