Both Office 2019 and Microsoft/Office 365 for Mac will work with Big Sur. Just upgrade to Big Sur and Office should keep on working normally. We suggest updating Office (Help | Check for Updates in any Office program) before updating to Big Sur.
I backed up my computer and downloaded and installed Big Sur. Microsoft Office is running just fine. It works well. But it looks a little bit different on the theme. Works fine and also with the new M1 chip. Thanks for answering this. I too am in the same boat. Assuming other than theme difference you haven’t had any compatibility issues.

Office 2016 will run in current Mac OS Big Sur. There is no guarantee that Apple will continue supporting Office 2016 in future Mac operating system updates. I only use Excel and occasionally Word and have no problems yet. I just downloaded Big Sur and my Office programs (word/excel) are totally grayed out, as in gone. I have a product key for my Office 2016 Suite and it doesn’t work, I think because it’s too old?
