This means that a PDF document cannot be edited as easily as a .doc or a simple text file. However, a number of online educational resources are distributing their material in PDF formats. Luckily there is a way to convert these PDFs into editable documents and use them in your Google Classroom.

Does Google Classroom create a copy of the teacher’s document?
Google Classroom does not create a copy of the teachers document until the student clicks on the OPEN button and opens the document. If the you check the assignment folder in Google Drive, you will notice it is empty when you initially assign.
Why can’t students access a class folder in Google Classroom?
If the teacher creates class resources in the class folder, the students are not able to access that file unless the teacher adds it as a resource in Google Classroom. Our automated system analyzes replies to choose the one that’s most likely to answer the question. If it seems to be helpful, we may eventually mark it as a Recommended Answer.
You might be thinking “How do I access a student’s work in their Google Drive?”
You can’t access the student’s own folder in their Drive (unless you log in to their Google account), but you can see all the work they have submitted for the course in it’s assignment file in YOUR Classroom folder in Drive. You can access this by clicking the link on the top right of the Classwork page.
Can a student edit a document?
Students can edit file—All students share the same file and can make changes to it. Make a copy for each student—Students get their own copy of the file with their name added to the document title. For Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files, both you and the student can edit the document.
