Also, will windows xp still activate?
Although support has ended for Windows XP, it can still be activated and installed on a system. The only difference would be that you will no longer be receiving updates or be offered any support from Microsoft’s technical support regarding the same. Solution 1: Activation over the Internet.
In some cases, activation might still work but your Windows XP will be at risk because support is already ended. Thank you for your useful reply. I know that Windows XP is no longer being sold officially.
The “regular” methods provided with XP (phone and online) don’t work anymore. The phone number is not valid for activation anymore (I tried the German one) and the online activation does not work either (in a quick test within a DMZ other protocols like ICMP or HTTP worked fine when I accessed an internet server).
To activate, use the Windows Product Activation wizard to provide the installation ID to Microsoft over the Internet or your phone line. The installation ID records an association of the product ID to your computer and a confirmation ID is sent back to your computer to activate Windows XP.
Microsoft has taken down their activation servers for Win, and xp. This is bad news, because without activating, an XP install becomes unusable after 30 days.
