On Windows 10 PCs that are not currently running 10S, it cannot be enabled retroactively. Windows 10S allows users to experience a faster and more secure version of Windows, but this includes limitations. While using Windows 10S, users can only install and use applications that are downloaded through the Microsoft Store.
Windows 10S is available for Windows Enterprise and Windows Education mode. While Windows 10S does greatly limit the downloads that you are able to get, both the computer startup and browsing speeds are faster in Windows 10S mode than the normal version of Windows 10.
One way to think about this is microsoft is looking to tap into the education market with Windows 10 S. Windows 10 S, while aimed at the same market, is a fully-fledged version of Windows that is limited to apps from the Windows Store, but can accept and use any peripherals or other devices that any other Windows computer can.
Windows 10 is the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, first released in 2015. When it came out, a Microsoft employee called it “the last version of Windows.” This doesn’t mean that Microsoft will be getting rid of the OS, but that Windows will operate more as a service, with continuous updates instead of one huge upgrade.
Short Bytes: Microsoft’s latest operating system for schools and students might be a Windows, but it is different than other versions. Windows 10 S is faster and requires low hardware configuration. It can only run the apps present on the Windows Store. Users can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for $50 if they want to install desktop apps.
Is Windows 10 s better than Windows 10?
Microsoft also promises Windows 10 S will deliver significantly better battery life than Windows 10. In fact Microsoft claims its first Windows 10 S computer, the ‘Surface Laptop’, will last up to 14.5 hours on a single charge, and that machine packs a 13.5-inch 1080p touchscreen display. The key factor is whether this stacks up in real world use.
This of course begs the query “Is Windows 10 s better than Windows 10 Pro?”
Well, it could be, but with Microsoft stripping down features and improving speed. Microsoft has placed it’s latest operating system closer to Windows 10 Pro as both of them are based on the same core. This also means Windows 10 S is a lot less different than Windows 10 Pro in comparison to the Home version.
Can my computer run Windows 10s?
This is short and sweet: if your computer can run Windows 10, it can run Windows 10S. Microsoft also claims Windows 10 S will work with most third party peripherals as it has access to the Windows 10 driver database.
